HERO

Qantas/Tamworth

A SHORT film praising the diversity of a Tamworth lifestyle has won a Qantaslink contest, with enviable prizes for its creator and the city.

Filmmaker Luke McDonagh has won an Uluru holiday and 100,000 frequent flyer points for his film, which was among nine finalists in the MyTown contest.

Tamworth will be the subject of a promotional film to be shot professionally and screened in-flight during November, and will also feature in Qantas’ in-flight Spirit magazine.

Mr McDonagh said he was lucky to have the opportunity to achieve two goals at once.

“I always wanted to make a video about Tamworth, and me and my girlfriend were talking about our next trip being to Uluru, and then this competition came up – good timing,” he said.

“I’m all about as many birds and as few stones as possible.”

Two Moree clips were also finalists in the MyTown contest, made by Sascha Estens and Mike Boudreaux respectively, and Ms Estens’ film has been named runner-up.

The films had to be 30-60 seconds long, and the winner would be the “most original video judged as the most convincing and creative in encouraging people to visit their town”.
